Matthew L. Boulton, Pearl L. Kendrick Collegiate Professor of Global Public Health at the University of Michigan School of Public Health, has been named associate director of the University of Michigan’s Center for Global Health Equity.
Today, Bhramar Mukherjee, the John D. Kalbfleisch Collegiate Professor and chair of the Department of Biostatistics at the University of Michigan School of Public Health, was one of five University of Michigan professors elected to the National Academy of Medicine. Induction into the NAM is the highest honor for health and medicine researchers in the United States.
For outstanding contributions to respiratory virus disease research over the course of his career, Dr. Arnold Monto, the Thomas Francis, Jr. Collegiate Professor of Public Health, has received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the International Society for Influenza and other Respiratory Virus Diseases (ISIRV).
Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the first African and first nonphysician director-general of the World Health Organization, will be awarded the Thomas Francis Jr. Medal in Global Public Health at the University of Michigan.
The Region V Public Health Training Center (RVPHTC) was recently awarded $3.7 million in funding by the Health Resources and Services Administration. The award, which provides funding through June of 2026, will help the center expand its goal to increase the supply, diversity, and capacity of the public health workforce through a variety of tools and programs.
The University of Michigan is seeking nominations for the Thomas Francis Jr. Medal in Global Public Health, one of the highest recognitions granted by the university. The medal, named after the renowned U-M physician, virologist and infectious disease researcher, recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to the advancement of global public health through major scientific discovery or through the development and leadership of effective public health policy or action.
