Web Of Support

The program has a unique structure in which FPHLP participants are surrounded by a "Web of Support," consisting of program staff, public health professionals, and School of Public Health faculty. All of these key players are there to guide students throughout the summer.

The Web Of Support image reads 'Michigan FPHLP Students' in the center in an orange box. There are blue hexagons surrounding the center box that read 'Program Director,' 'Program Coordinators,' 'Program Assistant,' 'Resident Life Leaders,' 'Mentors,' 'Advisors,' 'Faculty Advisors,' and 'FPHLP Alumni.'

Advisor Role

Michigan FPHLP advisors are public health professionals who provide guidance and support participants' educational goals and career development. Two advisors are paired with a group of 6 –8 Michigan FPHLP advisees and meet regularly with their groups. The goal is to assist students in making connections between their field placement projects, topics discussed in seminars, and their future goals.

Mentor Role

Michigan FPHLP mentors are site-based professionals who support student participants at their field sites by providing oversight and guidance for the completion of their field placement project. The role of the mentor is to help the student successfully bridge the gap from the classroom to the working environment.
