NO. Students do not need to have previous experience in public health to apply and participate
in the program. We encourage students from a wide range of disciplines to apply to
Michigan FPHLP.
YES. In the past, FPHLP has worked with students and their home institutions to proctor
exams to facilitate their involvement in the program. However, accommodations will
not be discussed until a student is selected for the program.
NO. Only U.S. Citizens, Permanent Residents and U.S. Nationals are eligible for this program.
MAYBE. If you graduate in Winter 2023 or Spring 2024, you are still eligible to participate.
If you graduated prior to December 2023, you are ineligible.
YES. Residents from U.S. Territories are eligible for this program.
Low income is defined as below 200% of the Federal Poverty Level.
YES. However, if you would like to be considered for FPHLP at the University of Michigan,
you MUST complete our online application.
All Lewis Scholars programs have their own individual applications. Visit each Lewis
Scholars program's website for information on their specific application process.
NO. Eligibility requirements are inflexible and cannot be negotiated.
The dates change year to year. For Summer 2024, the dates are late May through late
July.
NO. Accepted students will receive a stipend to cover their living costs while in Ann
Arbor. In addition, travel and housing costs will be covered.
The stipend amount is $3,100 received in four equal payments over the summer. The
stipend is intended to assist students in covering some of their living expenses during
the program.
Program participants will be housed with a roommate in accessible residential halls
on the University of Michigan’s campus near the School of Public Health where the
rooms will be double occupied or suite style.
Students with disabilities can participate in Michigan FPHLP. There are no physical
requirements that pertain to Michigan FPHLP. Prior to the start of the program, Michigan
FPHLP Staff will have conversations with students to ensure an accessible learning
environment is available to all students. Some field placement sites may have physical
requirements related to their office environment and/or projects; however, Michigan
FPHLP Staff works with field placement sites and students for the matching process
and would be able to match students where they feel supported and accommodated based
on their needs.
NO. Spouses are not eligible for staying with program participants in housing during the
program.
Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate children within the program.

on January 31, 2024. During the application period, a link to the online application
will be posted on the

NO. Paper transcripts must be scanned into PDF format and uploaded to the online application.
For transcripts from multiple institutions, students must merge transcripts into one
PDF file to upload to the online application.

Please submit what you have at the time of completing your application.
Please thoroughly read through the directions on the Letter of Recommendation page
of the application.
Once you complete your recommenders' information (Name, Title, Institution, and Email)
and save your application, an automated email invitation will be sent to the email
address you provided for your recommender. The automated email invitation will contain
a link that is specific to each recommender to use to complete their letter of recommendation.
We encourage all applicants to check in with their recommenders to ensure that they
have received the email regarding the letter of recommendation. Please have your recommender
check their Spam folder when trying to locate the automated email invitation.
Recommenders will have until January 30, 2024 at 11:59pm EST to submit their letter of recommendation.
When the letter of recommendation is successfully submitted, you will be able to check
the "Applicant Dashboard," a page viewable upon logging into your application account.

A token is a unique identifier sent to your recommender that connects their letter
to your application.
Upon completing your application and submitting it online, a notification will appear
on your screen confirming your application submission.
All selections will be made no later than March 31, 2024.
