Program
The University of Michigan Future Public Health Leaders Program (Michigan FPHLP) is a 10-week residential program at the University of Michigan School of Public Health (Michigan Public Health) designed to encourage underrepresented college students to consider careers in public health. Participants receive leadership training, orientation to the public health disciplines, and real-world work experience. Students are not required to have previous experience in public health. The program is meant to foster knowledge of, excitement about, and commitment to health equity. The program includes public health and career mentorship, hands-on and practical field experience, seminars, lectures and workshops with public health leaders.
The program dates for Summer 2023 are TBD (late May- late July).
Michigan FPHLP incorporates a multi-prong approach with a research project, public health curriculum, field experience, and community service events. Public health professionals and faculty advisors will offer mentorship to Michigan FPHLP participants throughout the summer.
Selected applicants for Michigan FPHLP will make up a cohort of students from throughout the United States and U.S. territories. Each cohort has their own unique experiences that guide their interest in public health. Bringing together students from various backgrounds allows students to learn from each other as much as from Michigan FPHLP. Check out a snapshot of past cohorts below.
