About

The Minority Health and Health Disparities Research Training (MHRT) Program at the National Institutes of Health was established to:

  1. Encourage undergraduate, post-baccalaureate, graduate, postdoctoral, and/or health professions students from backgrounds underrepresented in biomedical, behavioral, clinical, and social sciences to pursue careers in biomedical and/or behavioral health research fields
  2. Provide training in collaborative research conducted in domestic and LMIC settings to undergraduate, post-baccalaureate, graduate, postdoctoral, and/or health professions students
  3. Broaden the research interests and scientific training of undergraduate, post-baccalaureate, graduate, postdoctoral, and/or health professions students from minority backgrounds to encompass domestic and international health issues
  4. Expose students from minority backgrounds to research initiatives that address health disparities in the U.S. and in LMIC locations
