Alumni Engagement
Listening to the career journeys and insights of Michigan Public Health alumni provides
meaningful encouragement and support for current Michigan Public Health students looking
for guidance on how to best navigate their academic and career path. The Michigan
Public Health Careers Office is excited and grateful to partner with Michigan Public
Health alumni to connect with current students through a variety of engagement opportunities.
We also offer services and resources for Michigan Public Health alumni looking for
support in their own career journeys.
Student Experience: “It was so great to hear from people who really remembered what it feels like to
be in my shoes. I also just felt super comfortable with them because they were so
relatable! It was comforting to know that the hiring process post grad is difficult
for everyone, and that there are so many different paths that will eventually get
you to where you need to be. I feel less rushed and frantic when it comes to choosing
my job post grad.”
Support Michigan Public Health Students
If you are interested in supporting our current Michigan Public Health students through
in-person or virtual engagement, we would love to hear from you. Our Careers Office Alumni Engagement Form offers the opportunity for alumni to sign up for various opportunities including:
Using our Michigan Public Health-specific Job Board - the
Careers Gateway - you can post internship, project, research or job opportunities for students to
apply for and receive valuable experience. You are also welcome to email postings
to us at
sph.jobs@umich.edu.
If there is a Human Resources Representative or Recruiter from your company that is
interested in hiring Michigan Public Health students, you can connect them with our
Employer Engagement Coordinator, Neika White (
ncwhite@umich.edu).
We host three in-person Public Health Fairs each year and invite alumni to present
about their experiences working in their positions during 30 min presentations and
engage in conversations with current students. These presentations and conversations
provide students with valuable insights into working in specific Public Health fields
on a day-to-day basis. To sign up, please fill out our
Careers Office Alumni Engagement Form.
The Careers Office collaborates with student leaders from each Michigan Public Health
department to host a Virtual Career Exploration Panel for each department. During
the panels, alumni share about their career journey, role, projects, and advice for
students. To sign up, please fill out our
Careers Office Alumni Engagement Form.
The Careers office works to connect alumni with students in Virtual 1:1 Meetings to
share about what it's like to work in their field. These meetings are usually 25-30
minutes long allowing the student to introduce themselves, share about their interests,
and ask questions about the alum's work. To sign up, please fill out our
Careers Office Alumni Engagement Form.
