Undergraduates are allowed to enroll in this course.
Description: This course overviews climate science, links between climate change and health, and the disproportionate impact on vulnerable populations. This provides the context to explore how the healthcare system can respond to climate-related challenges and mitigate its own impact on the climate, and how public policy can promote these objectives.
Learning Objectives: Describe the scientific basis of climate change and the primary impacts of climate change on human health
2. Evaluate how the healthcare system and its organizations can effectively address the short- and long-term effects of climate change on the health of the populations they serve
3. Assess how the healthcare system’s own sustainability can be improved and how healthcare leaders can help mitigate the sector’s impact on the climate
4. Propose public policy strategies that could facilitate the healthcare system’s response to the climate crisis and enhance the sustainability of its operations
