Summary
Professor Harper has been conducting community-engaged HIV and LGBTQ+ research, practice, training, and policy work in Kenya for 20 years, and has done similar work in Zambia, Botswana, and Mozambique. Gary works collaboratively with community agencies and community members to develop and evaluate strengths-based HIV prevention and mental health promotion programs for LGBTQ+ communities. In this work, he utilizes an array of critical qualitative and mixed-methods research strategies to ensure that these programs are centered on the lived realities of LGBTQ+ people and can be implemented in community settings in a manner that is feasible and sustainable.
