For a healthier future in a changing world, Look to Michigan Public Health
Public health is focused on maximizing human potential. Health is our most precious asset, and when people are healthy, they can reach their full potential; they can create, innovate, serve and help others. When human potential is realized, fostered by excellent public health, humankind thrives. We experienced this throughout the 20th century as life expectancy in the US increased by 30 years—in large part thanks to public health.
Thirty productive and healthy years of additional life enable us to create more, engage more, contribute more, and give more.
Throughout its illustrious history, the University of Michigan School of Public Health has worked to advance human health and potential. And now the vexing issues of our time put our collective health at peril. As one example, what we in public health have always known became frighteningly clear to the world during the COVID-19 pandemic: Each individual’s health impacts the health of the entire population.
With increased awareness of public health issues facing society, we have a responsibility and are poised to lead the way. As a central part of the fabric of the University of Michigan, our aspirations for the future are clear: To be the premier public school of public health in the nation. As the world changes, now is our time.
