Definition

A cross-campus transfer student has completed college coursework on the University of Michigan (U-M) Ann Arbor campus but is not currently enrolled in the School of Public Health. Students are eligible to apply to cross-campus transfer in their sophomore year.

Application Deadline

  • The deadline for cross campus and external transfer applicants applying for Fall 2026 admission is January 15, 2026 at 11:59 pm EST.

Prerequisites

Several prerequisite courses must be completed prior to beginning the program. Visit the prerequisites page for more information.

Application

Our application is designed to help us get to know you and better understand your passion for public health. You’ll be asked to share details about your educational background, extracurricular and community involvement, and any employment, research, or internship experiences that have shaped your interests.

Statement of Interest

As part of the application, you will complete a Statement of Interest (limit 300 words). In this essay, we invite you to:

  • Describe what you hope to gain from majoring in Public Health.
  • Reflect on how your academic, extracurricular, and personal experiences have prepared you to succeed in the program.

This is your opportunity to highlight your unique perspective, motivations, and goals as you begin your journey in public health.

Application Timeline and Requirements

The application opens October 1 each year and must be completed online. You will be asked to upload an unofficial transcript from U-M Ann Arbor and from any other post-secondary institutions you have attended. This includes:

  • Dual enrollment courses
  • College-level courses taken elsewhere (even if already listed on your U-M transcript)

If admitted, you will be required to submit official transcripts.

Transcript Upload Tips

If you receive an error message asking you to remove the password protection from the document this may be due to a digital signature in the document. To resolve this issue, we suggest you choose one of the following options then re-upload the transcript to the application.

  1. Open the PDF, go to print and choose Adobe PDF as the printer. This will create a copy of the PDF without the digital signature.
  2. Option 2: Take a photo of the printed document, convert the .png or .jpg file to a PDF.

Admission Criteria

The U-M School of Public Health considers the following academic factors in determining admission for cross-campus students:

  • Number of credit hours completed by proposed term of entry.
  • Level of achievement in college coursework.
  • Successful completion of prerequisite courses.
  • Engagement with community and/or campus organizations.
  • Demonstrated interest in Public Health. Be sure to highlight what makes the public health major right for you given your interests, goals and experiences.
