About Us

PHSAD strives to create an atmosphere wherein academic and professional excellence can coincide with the interests of populations of African descent. We strive to disseminate and exchange information regarding the concerns of marginalized groups in the field of Public Health and to serve as a network and support system for educational and professional purposes.

Purposes/Goals

  • To create an atmosphere wherein academic and professional excellence can coincide with the interests of populations of African descent, individuals can find their fullest expression through interaction with other students of African descent.
  • To create a safe space in which students can feel free to express themselves openly, raise concerns, and find a sense of belonging.
  • Our goal is to share information and support marginalized communities in public health in Ann Arbor and beyond. We serve as a network for education, professional development, and expressing concerns.
  • To take necessary and proper steps to eradicate discrimination in the School of Public Health as it appears to be based on race, gender, religion, sexual orientation, and/or ethnicity.
  • To raise the level of Black student recruitment, admission, and retention in the School of Public Health.
