More Information & Registration

The Michigan Cancer and Research on the Environment Study (MI-CARES) is designed to understand the impact of a broad range of environmental exposures on health, particularly cancer. We want to find answers to questions that impact our daily lives, like… ? What is the association between things like use of non-stick cooking pans or the chemical hair straighteners, and intermediate cancer markers like stress and inflammation? ? What is the association between the noise I hear in my neighborhood and intermediate cancer markers like stress and inflammation? ? What is the association between heavy metals that I work with in an industrial setting, such as lead or cadmium, and intermediate cancer markers like stress and inflammation? To answer these questions, we need your help. If you’re between the ages of 18 to 49 and currently reside in the state of Michigan, you’re eligible to participate. Participating in MI-CARES is designed to be fully remote and is optimized for smartphones, tablets, and computers. ‘ To participate, you complete the consent form and six survey modules (each takes less than 10 minutes to complete). Once you complete those, you will receive a $10 gift card as a thank you. We will also ask for you to provide a one-time self-collected saliva and toenail sample (but that is completely optional). After that, you’ll hear from once about once a year where we will just ask if there are any updates or changes since your initial enrollment.
